ABOUT EVA ELAND

Eva Eland is a Dutch author and illustrator who lives in Amsterdam with her husband and their two children. She earned an MA with distinction in children’s book illustration from the Cambridge School of Art, and has also studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the School of Visual Arts in New York.

The work she’s most known for is her picture book When Sadness Comes to Call. It has been translated in well over 20 languages and has won several awards, among which the Klaus Flugge Award for the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s book illustration and the V&A award in the book cover category. She also author-illustrated Where Happiness Begins and Where is the Cat?, her most recent picture book.

Eva’s preferred techniques are Risography, combining her minimalistic hand-drawn works with a limited colour palette, which she uses on her books and other illustrations.
